Lost an item in Korea? Prepare a description before searching
Prepare a clear lost-item description, keep ownership evidence private and follow the official Police Civil Service 24 guidance. Reporting access and recovery are not guaranteed.
Start with the official guidance
A clear description makes it easier to look for a lost item. Seoul’s Autonomous Police Committee currently directs people to the Police Civil Service 24 portal for lost-property searching and online reporting. Its guidance was updated on 21 July 2026. Start from the official service link rather than an old saved search result.
Describe what you remember
Before searching, write down the approximate time and place where you last had the item, its category, colour, material and distinctive features. Separate what you remember from what you are guessing. “Blue fabric pouch, last seen near the station entrance” is a more useful starting description than “bag lost somewhere in Seoul.” These are invented examples, not details from a real customer inquiry.
Keep ownership evidence private
Keep evidence of ownership privately. Do not publish a passport scan, full card number, home address or account credentials in an open post. Use only the information required by the official process and check the website address before entering it. If you cannot use the online service, consult its official guidance for available assistance; foreign-language and identity-verification options were not tested for this article.
Confirm with the responsible office
If you find someone else’s item, the same official guidance directs finders to a nearby police station or local police office. Finding a similar listing does not prove that it is your item: confirm details through the responsible office. No recovery time or successful return is guaranteed.
